The White and Gold Bride: Adi

Real Bride

Meet Adi, one of my very special brides. My appointments with Adi and her gorgeous mom Mary will always be very fond memories for me. Adi had fallen in love with Maria Fekih’s Selma dress online and pulled poor Mary out of bed at 6am after a wedding and drove to us from Dublin for our first appointment of the day. It was love at first site and the only dress Adi wanted to try. I still remember Mary saying ” When we know, we know!” We love how Adi styled Selma, softening Maria’s clean, Scandinavian lines and luxe fabrics with shoes adorned with playful tulle bows. Like a lot of our brides, Adi & David had a different wedding than originally planned and their intimate wedding in No.25 Fitzwilliam Place in Dublin looked like the most special day. Everyone looks so radiantly happy in the pics and we adore the sophisticated urban vibe…  it is difficult to imagine a cooler wedding!

We asked Adi some questions about her wedding style, how she knew her dress was the one for her and if she has any advice for other brides-to-be.

Adi, your dress was just incredible on you! You knew it was your dress before you came to see us – How did you know it was the dress for you?

I had been looking online through Instagram and Pinterest for dress styles I liked. I knew I wanted something with clean lines but unique at the same time. I spotted my dress on Pinterest and did some research to see that The White and Gold were the exclusive stockist for Maria Fekih in Ireland. Straight away I got in contact with Sorcha. When we arrived at The White & Gold, I immediately spotted the sleeve of my Selma dress poking out among Sorcha’s beautiful array of dresses and I had a very good feeling about it. It was the first dress I tried on and the only only bridal shop I visited. Once I had it on I knew I didn’t have to look any further! I just adored it instantly – so comfortable and surprisingly lightweight too which made it so easy to wear.

Who did you bring to your bridal appointment? Did they help you decide on your dress?

I brought my Mum to my appointment as she has a great eye for style and our shared interest in fashion is one of our favourite talking points. She certainly gave me confidence I’d made the right choice and loved our experience as much as I did. We then had some great fun choosing accessories and spending our drives home to Dublin chatting through everything we’d seen and what else we could bring to the look.

What would you say was your overall wedding style?

Having changed from a large wedding in the country to an intimate wedding with 22 guests in Dublin we kept our vision of a contemporary but traditional aesthetic and it translated perfectly! We used white and green for the colour scheme. I wanted a simple but statement sheaf style bouquet which Richard Haslam got spot on for myself and my three gorgeous bridesmaids who also wore green. He also created some beautiful arrangements for my parents house and the venue. We kept our wedding as a black tie event I just loved the glamour of that. David and the boys all looked superb in their formal gear too!

How did you accessorise your dress? Tell us all the jewellery and shoe details!

I wore the Noomi veil also by Maria Fekih – the length and lace detail are so beautiful and yet so cool.

Maria also kindly supplied some extra fabric the same as my dress and I had a headband made through a milliner in Cork, Hattitude, which Sorcha organised and it complimented the dress and veil really well.

My earrings were Salma by Christie Nicolaides– also chosen from The White & Gold.

I got my shoes from Bella Belle shoes which have a tulle bow to the back and side but with the train of my dress this detail wasn’t shown to its advantage so my dressmaker came the rescue by adding a funky tulle bow to the front of each shoe. They were very comfortable – my feet felt good all day and shoes even stayed on when we walked from the venue to the Shelbourne Hotel at the end of the night!

Any underwear tips for our brides to be?

Don’t forget about underwear! It’s such an important part of your outfit. For me I just assumed it would be as easy as finding the dress when in fact it was the trickiest part for me!  As the back of my dress is quite transparent I went for a low backed corset underneath and it suited perfectly. I also used Skims body tape for extra support which was a lifesaver!

Any special moments you treasure from the day?

My most special moment was that my Grandmother was able be part of the day. The changes meant we were married locally and so my aunt drove her to the church grounds for her to see us arrive and leave as a married couple. She watched the ceremony on an iPad from the safety and comfort of the car! It was so much more special to have her there in person than for her to see photos afterwards. It is a very special memory which I will always cherish.

If you could give brides-to-be one piece of solid advice?

Definitely not to sweat the small or even big things! Remember the purpose of the occasion and try not to get carried away or too panicked about anything. Changes have become something that are inevitable currently but all I can say is that we are so happy we went ahead when when we did. We ended up stripping back the wedding quite a lot and now on reflection we wouldn’t change a thing!

Who did your hair, make up and photography?

I had a blow-dry on the morning of the wedding in Oslo on Mespil Road. For make up, I felt happier to do it myself. I got some great tips after a lesson in Chanel in Brown Thomas and made sure to leave enough time for myself the morning of the wedding. We had Jared from Into the Light as our photographer and he brought a great energy to the day.

How did you find your experience at The White and Gold?

Although I know my own style and knew what I was looking for, I had envisioned the experience of dress shopping to be the most daunting task of all. I couldn’t have been more wrong, once I booked the initial appointment, Sorcha just made the experience so wonderful. From the moment we walked in we felt completely at ease. With all the mania of wedding planning Sorcha creates a very chilled out vibe with lots of style and plenty of fun!

We have some really special memories of our trips to Kinsale and also to one of the Dublin pop-ups. For both my Mum and I, The White & Gold was our one stop shop for everything we needed – Sorcha just got us! I genuinely couldn’t have asked for more.

Thank you Adi – I truly loved our appointments together with Mazza and absolutely love having you in my White & Gold gang
